Sitting At Their Feet
A three-part documentary book series highlighting the wisdom of three elders living in a nursing home in Minneapolis, MN.
In 2015, I embarked on an 11-month global journey across 11 countries, filming and documenting transformative stories. The experiences of adjusting to new cultures and environments deeply impacted me, but the return to America was even more eye-opening. I was struck by the lack of genuine connection and the prevalence of digital distractions, which left me longing for real, authentic human stories.
Inspired by the documentary Alive Inside and moved by the neglect of elderly people in nursing homes, I sought to give a voice to those whose stories often go unheard. At Ebenezer Care Center in Minneapolis, I spent two months with residents Vivian, Ed, and Shirley, documenting their life stories and capturing their wisdom. This project became a journey of learning, reflection, and friendship—one that highlighted the beauty and depth of elder voices.
